more advice needed, on engine,

been offered a bored out 2.8 to 3.1 with 268 schrick cams, 6 branch manifold, new timing chain, with ecu allready mapped with it. 240bhp, will it be an easy job replacing my stock vr6 with it.

I would do a little research on the engine 1st.

Being bored out to 3.1 means it has at least an 85mm bore, or its is bored and stroked.

Have you seen the engine running at all?

thanks for such a quick reply mate. where are you located by the way. no i havent seen it running, he has paperwork that the work was carried out by gti engineering. would it b wrong to presume they wud of have bored and stroked it.

It would be wrong to presume anything.

3.1 engines are known to give trouble - I would be asking the seller ALOT of questions about it. The compression ratio for one.

do you think it would be best left, my engne is fine. its just that i want more power. hes selling the engine for 600.

for 600 quid it is worth asking all the questions as that is a VERY cheap price if it is a real 3.1

You wanna know what bore the engine is

What compression ratio it is

he no longer has all paperwork. it has been bored and stroked and timming done. all by gti engineering. he cnt remember what parts were used. but he assures me it a superb engine. not sure what to do. seems a real bargain, bt dnt wanna get ripped off.

my first vr was a "lemon" and i promised myself never again,to me paperwork is everything even if you keep the receipts for parts bought it shows something,dont get me wrong it could be a bargain but you havent seen it running,the choice is yours..

Ring GTi Engineering and see if they know anything about it?

Can't be that many 3.1s about???
