craggsy 91
Right been on a track day at Snetterton today, immense fun but thats not the problem.Whilst at the track day the car never missed a beat. At the end of the day I packed up and set off home, pulled into Cambridge services for a coffee and everything is fine, pulled out of services onto the A14 and still all good. Get to the A1 junction and i cant downshift at all and clutch pedal feels very heavy. It cruntches into 3rd to 6th and not at all into 1st and 2nd. I coast into a layby to get it going but only way is to put car in 1st and start it like a bump start off starter. The clutch pedal is stiff and goes right to the floor and feels like the biting point is about an inch or so further than pedal will go if you get what i mean.I can engage 3rd to 6th without pushing the clutch in, but it doesnt slip..Also if its the clutch.....there will be hell to pay as clutch is a paddle clutch aiming at drag and race uses.Oh and if it is a new clutch then car is gonna be parked up for a while as I cant afford another one just yet!!! UnitedMotorsport 55
Its either that, the master cylinder or the gearbox is loose on the engine.
craggsy 91
AFter the last few hours googling it seems that if its the slave cylinder then the pedal drops to the floor and stays but if its master cylinder the pedal will return, which it does. How difficult is it to change a master cylinder, or shall i just take it somewhere to change it and they can change brake fluid as well.yay or nay? UnitedMotorsport 55
Was the slave cylinder/release bearing changed when the clutch was replaced?

UnitedMotorsport 55
Slave cylinder and release bearing is all the same thing on a 02M. Was it a genuine metal item?
legvw 0
Bummer mate. Sorry to hear it.Could the heat from the turbo etc effect the master cylinder?
J5KE F 0
Gutted for u craig, be interested to find out what it was..? I seem to remember having probs with my 51 plate 32's slave.. Think it was something to do with seals, but it was done under a vw warrantee so didnt pay much attention at the time..Hope u can get it sorted soon fella
jims13 6
ah dude such a shame.i wouldnt be suprised if it was the slave or master.. track days take a fair bit out of the clutch system..im also sure the clutch will be fine.. after all mine has been and still is subjected to far more abuse than yours.chin up fella
craggsy 91
Matt-yes we put a genuine release bearing in it. Wasn't gonna use anything else but a genuine one.It makes me feel a bit better knowing it shouldn't be that. But still font fancy doing a master cylinder tho as these Porsche brakes are supposed to be a nightmare to bleed right

bungy 2
Sorry to hear you're having problems....
legvw 0
The brake reservior feeds the brakes and the clutch master cylinders, so as long as the fluid is only drained jusr passed the clutch m/c feed pipe, you will be fine. (same princible as a vr set up)
