Special K 81 0
I've in the last so many weeks, ive bought parts and fitted, payed labour(good rates though), fair bit been done (wishbones, ball joints,ARB bushes, ARB drop links, discs and pads all around, bearings, welded blowing exhaust, coilovers, alloys, 4 toyo proxy t1r tyre's), still have a list of bits to be done before can even start bits i want to do..(timing chains,clutch,engine/gear box mounts, different exhaust system,service)....Now the next thing to throw a spanner in the works is apparently my car is too low to have tracking/alignment done...there fore in a week ive managed to do a fair bit damage to 2 brand spanking new toyo tyre's in 7 days as the wheels are towing inwards at front. Tried to get tracked today by a small independent willing to work on a low car(earing in mind this isnt the lowest car in the world or anything btw). He said was way out and started to adjust etc, then told me cant do it not enough adjustment left to pull them straight.Im thinking obv down to the fact its dropped on coilovers which prob lift the angle of the wishbones etc.How can i remedy this a ssurely other ppl on coilies dont suffer this???Poss cut 5ml or so off end each steering rods???...would this bring the back of the front wheels in line...surley??Is it because i a running some camber....is that enough t trow the slignment that bad out???This is another thing to test my vr6 patience....getting a bit annoying as want to do fun stuff to itWill be due 2 new tyre's in like a fortnight if carries onhelp, advise, suggestions??? please
The Monk 50
Have you stuck the coilies on yourself? The 2 bolts at the bottom of the coilies/top of the hub can sometimes be tightened in the wrong place.I had the same problem and adjusted the bottom bolt to where it was originally. The tyres can be stuck into a rather large negative or positive camber.Tracking can be done despite the camber. Unless you've gone into a kerb at 90.
Special K 81 0
I noticed the top bolt hole is slightly longated to allow camber so i dropped a blump line and tilted wheel in slightly to give negative camber,on thethinking, less chance of rubbing in arch, plus slightly better handling....may be ive gone to much!?!?!?But why the prob with alignment!?!?!? :S
legvw 0
Maybe they were only working with 1 side of the steering rack. I've found a lot of companys adjust 1 side instead of both, which causes 1 side to over adjusted, and the steering lock different when the wheels point left or right. You probably only want between 0.5 to 1 degree of negative camber really. Ian_rogers 0
Can't u just raise it on the coilies get the toe etc adjusted then lower it again??
Apollo 0
There is no such thing as too low for wheel alignment, you just need to find a garage able to do it correctly. Look for one with a drive on floor level lift, that way it negates any ramping and smashing of front splitters etc. As for not enough adjustment left - he needs to lift the weight of the car off the suspension and move it then resettle it down. Mine was exactly the same last weekend and the guy at Protyre explained what he had to do, also telling me its a simple mistake made by other garages. Hope you get it sorted soon. The Monk 50
Yea, even the chaps at the garage where I work only adjust 1 side. It ends up with the left wheel being adjusted to the right. Even if the right wheel is the one out of sync.Look also for laser alignment.
Special K 81 0
can i just say guys, collectively to you all you are fantastic,...you've give me some hope now where ive actually been feeling at a loss!! So they have adjustment boh ends of rod!?!, maybe he was just doing one side, he did only sem to be working wheel end.Parky, i may be way out on my negative camber and prob didnt take in to account the fact that as the weight of the car is lowered off the ramp the arms prob move in an arc movement and have prob added more negative camber.Hopefully this sat sort it,although im so skint its rediculous with all stuff going on with car....guess where my birthday money is goin!?!?!....tracking perhaps??
