russj249 2
i'm going up against my mate's 210BHP cooper s on 17th oct at shakespeare raceway and never really done a standing launch before.i know the key is to be on the verge of spinning, but i want to know how people find it best.also launch is nothing without good tyres.. he has kumho's on his, maybe a year old? very soft compound though.i have 3 week old goodyear eagle f1's which i've been told are one of the best and from what i've used them for much much better than the continentals that were on. michael5556 247
I have pirelli p400 good in the dry but horrible in the wet, so horrible I had them spinning at 70!If it's dry you want to be at about 2500rpm and let it loose as long as your tyres are warm you should be fine! bungy 2
Practice with variation to find the best for your setup. Or invest in launch control.....
russj249 2
i think you're right Bungy..I drove out into the country a bit yesterday and tried a few where I could safely.. I tried at 2.5k and let clutch out slow ish but still fast and feathered throttle and it worked superb. No spin at all but really launched off the line.My only hope might be that my mate told me he launches at 1250 revs.. he said it's because his spins any more. So either he's got more low down power, worse tyres or letting the clutch up too quick.I've got another friend of mine to do it in his Merc E190 2.6 which should be good to watch. It's rear end happy at the best of times trying to move off the line!
The Monk 50
Mate, I went up against a Cooper S. Stripped out and being driven by a lad that weighed the best part of my left leg.I beat him by around 8 car lengths. As you can see I didn't exactly try to beat him off the line. I went with a bit of spin in 1st. Also a it of spin in 2nd.

The standard cooper s is miles slower than this one, and the Cooper Works.Reason we know this is my boss owns a garage and has to test drive the cars after repairs or servicing etc, and the chap who had the mini before my mate, was one of my boss's friends that used to own unit next door, has just sold it for a BMW 135i Coupe.Anyway... he has driven it a fair few times, but we also know someone with a 06 plate cooper s works, and the works just doesn't feel the same. spadam 7
Yea mini cooper s can be made fast think you can get around 260bhp with standard supercharger and smaller pulleys etc. You will find it hard to beat him but get your launch right and pray he cocks his up. lol
