Guest couzens
Hi everyone, the rear left wheel abs sensor has caused my warning light on the dash to come on. I was going to have a crack at cleaning it before I think about getting a replacement. Can someone tell me where exactly the sensor is located and what it looks like (with a pic if possible) and the best way of cleaning it.Also will it affect the abs in any other way if I start fiddling with it and if it starts working again, will the dash light go out or not until I have the fault cleared with Vag.com?Sorry for all the questionsThanks for repliesSimon

shail 0
Cheers. (have exact same problem on the same wheel). Hmmm, mum was right all along - i am very lazy, but i find if you sit around for long enough someone will always come up with an answer!
dubloke 4
the rear wheel sensor is located behind the disc in front of the stone guard! removal is from the rear of the stone gaurd but it may be stubborn! if you just wanna clean it it may be easier to remove the disc/hub assembly, but this also requires removal of the rear caliper! sounds complicated i know but is only a half hour job and save foobaring the sensor trying to remove it if there's no need! dubloke 4
you can get ate sensors from euro car parts , which are exactly the same part as vw use! my two front sensors came to the same price as one vw one, so i would presume its the same as the rears! may as well replace both while you're at it! Guest couzens
OK, just cleaned mine. Was really easy to get out without stripping the brake unit down. Not surprising was caked in brake dust which I cleaned off. Should the light go off once done or not until the fault is cleared off the computer? I took it for a drive and braked hard which I caused it to lock up slightly. Could this be a result of the faulty sensor? If so I think I will buy a new one from German and Swedish 2morrow.[ Edited Sun Feb 29 2004, 12:39PM ]
dubloke 4
it'd be worth cleaning both sensors to be honest, as they are both probably caked up and the light on the dash only senses an abs fault, it doesn't specify which sensor it is! the light should go out straight away when the ignition is switched on.
