russj249 2
I'm 19 years old... and...I've just got the 1st thing to start getting the bits for a turbo conversion!! I've won a polished manifold with turbo and wastegate off eBay.The chap paid just over £2000 from stealth racing and now it's mine Bring on the joys (and downsides) of forced induction!! mike 6
whats your insurance like?have you got a quote for the turbo on insurance?
russj249 2
erm.. not yet nope.. but wont be goin on really untill I'm 20 anyway.. start of next year. My insurance is a rip-off anyway. I pay £1400 fully comp now with 2 yrs NCB. 1st year when I was 18 I paid £1900.To be honest I'm so used to paying so much for insurance it doesn't bother me. I know I can afford it no problem.
xyber 1
Get ready for insane quotes!! When I was 25 I got quoted £3k on a 260bhp charged VR with an agreed value of £8000 and a TS10
Special K 81 0
2 yrs no claims wont make a difference to quotes tbh. at 19, £1900 for a vr6 isnt bad believe me, when i started driving,....i wont say when a 1.1 fiesta 3rd party fire and theft would throw up quotes of 1300-1600 quid. But a turbo at 19 you may be paying more than the car is worth....but then its hell of a car for what they are worth!!!!....especially at 19. bring on the booost!!! tsssssh lol
bungy 2
What manifold and turbo did you buy. Post up a link or get some photo's up. 1st dibs on it after you get your insurance quote. lol.....

I know it's not the best setup in the world, but a good place to start...he's e-mailed me all the original paperwork from stealth too so I know its history. Plus the fact it's brand new.And Bungy i'll be keeping that in mind!
bungy 2
Nice to see you getting enthusiastic and going for it. Not sure how you would route the exhaust past the wastegate but that might just be the way the photo's have been taken. Are you going for an engine out then over the winter?
russj249 2
yea I'll just take the front end off again the same as when I did the timing chains and just pull the engine and box out all in one. As for the exhaust I am getting a couple of plates made, one turbo end and one exhaust end and roughly marking one up on the car then can either mig or tig weld it all together and have the welds smoothed and heat wrapped. It's all i've wanted to do over the past 2 years since I've had it so I think now's the time.As someone said above I'd be paying more than the value of the car, but I've been doing that since I was 17!£1800 on a polo 1.0L - i paid £1000£1900 on VR6 - I paid £1100 for it£1400 for the 2nd year.Value of both cars I've always put as £1500 which I think is reasonable. So fed up with insurers anyway.
bungy 2
Insurance at your age will always be like that. I can remember my first few cars cost more to insure than the cars themselves. Sounds like a plan and I look forward to seeing how you get on. Make sure you take plenty of photo's and do a build thread.
russj249 2
I'll get plenty of pics up. Wont be until after the winter has come and gone though. Not fancying a turbo in the snow to be honest!Gives me a chance too to get all the other bits and pieces ready to do the whole lot all at once. As long as I've got my welder on hand I'm sure I'll be fine! lol

Fully comp with courtesy car, windscreen cover, 90 day European cover - except Nurburg everything you need really so I don't think it's too bad. That turbo's been on there for 5 days, think he listed it at a bit of a saft time which didn't help him out as it ended at 1 in the morning.
