28v6r 0
OK, the car in question is a 95 Passat with a AAA engine. So here's the deal....The car can go for ages 2 maybe three hours constant driving, turn the ignition off and... It won't start! It takes 2-3 mins for that " something to cool down" then it will start as if nothing was wrong. During the no starting period, there is no smell of petrol, the engine turns over wildly as it's a new battery, but won't fire. My thinking is this, that the fuel relay is locking up and then cools slightly enough to start the car again. The problem is what number is the relay and where is it located?? I'm guessin' that it's in the fusebox, but where in the fusebox? And is the fusebox the same as the Golf/Corrados etc Any Ideas as this is gettin@ annoying and needs fixed ASAP. HELP!!!!Regards28v6r
binliner 0
if its the same as a golf the fusebox is to the right of the steering wheel under the dash, the relays are above the fuses. I'll have a look which one it is when I get home (if nobody posts before then!)
28v6r 0
Yep! it is, there are two rows of relays and underneath are the fuses... if that's any help:-)Regards28v6r
28v6r 0
The latest result is this... it takes 3 mins approx before restarting. I 've changes the fuel relay (first relay in on the bottom row from the door) and although the situation has improved and the stuttering has gone, I'm still having problems, can anyone show me what the fuel relay looks like i.e the position of the terminals etc Please?Regards28v6r
VR6Steve 0
I too would have guessed at the fuel pump relay, other than that I am not sure. Hope you find a cure soon
28v6r 0
Well here's the finale....I took the car over to the local dealers to get on the diagnostic machine and well..I was on the right track. Apparently fuel pump relay failure is quite a common problem especially in Golfs and Corrados, it wasn't expected to be in a Passat, then again the dealers haven't really seen my vehicle to often, in fact It was accused of being an engine conversion at one point... Brill, Luv it!!!! Anyway, the car was put on the machine and it was discovered that the car had the wrong relay fitted in the first place and as a result it had damaged the Votlage Stabiliser relay (No 109) most relays that are VW have an Identifying number on the casing. There is an upgrade pump relay that will cure this problem and also a stuttering that can often be misinterpreted as a misfire except it's the relay that is rapidly making and breaking. Part Number V191 906 383C Cost £17.25. Hope this is of some use to all you "Golf"ers out there...Regards28v6r

DundeeDub 0
i can make my stereo go off by moving the key in the ignition while driving, (when i mean moving i don't mean turning, just a tiny movement).Don't have a clue what could do it apart from a spike or drop in voltage.
