DooDah 0
Sorry to bring this old chesnut up again but can somebody answer this question for me please. The slow speed resistors have gone on the cooling fans and i am awaiting a Nime box to arrive so i can get the problem sorted, am i okay to still use the car? the temperature stays at a constant 90 degrees and the high speed fans kick in albeit only for a short time. i will not be using the aircon at all. Any advice please?
b road blaster 0
really can't see why not mate as long as the engine is cooled why not
DooDah 0
The car does not seem to have any other cooling problems...when in traffic the high speed fans do kick in but only briefly and the temp guage is reading 90 degrees....the high speed fans are not on for long....i thought they would run longer than the 30 ish seconds to cool a V6 lump down that's stuck in traffic. b road blaster 0
as long as the engine is not hot its ok in my mind thought the low speed fans are just to help the a/c so did'nt think they helped with the main engine cooling
legvw 0
Yeah, as long as it is cooling then it'll be fine.
DooDah 0
Thanks for the replies...just me being a bit paranoid..thought the fans would run longer to cool an engine of this size down...

bungy 2
Cost and effort to get sorted? Information might help someone else later....
DooDah 0
£85 for the Nime box and took me about an hour to do. The instructions that come with the unit were excellent. I soldered the connections and mounted the box on the battery tray and stuck it down with silicon adhesive. This is a very good much cheaper alternative fix than having to replace the fans. bungy 2
Have you got a link for where you got the Nime box from?

bungy 2
Really helpfull. Did you get the intermittent operation of your air con as the early indication that there was a fault?
DooDah 0
I checked the fans on the car when i went to purchase it just over a month ago and spotted the problem then as it is a common problem with MK4's fitted with the climatron. The aircon to be honest with you was working okay. When the aircon was switched to auto the slow speed on the fans was not working but the high speed would kick in for 30secs at a time. So it looks like the slow speed resistors had blown but fitting the Nime controller has sorted the problem out.

DooDah 0
The NIME unit is an electronic box of tricks that can be used to cure the cooling fan problem without having to replace the fan units...look back in the thread and you will see the link for the website...mine was fitted last year and is working a treat.
