Refitting new crack pipe...

Recommended Posts

Evening all,

After a day and a half of wrestling with rounded out allen key bolt on the thermostat housing, i've managed to get my broken crack pipe off the front of the engine, but can't seem to get the new one back into the water pump end far enough :-/ is there a special nack to doing it, or just push harder and hit harder?

Help much appreciated, cheers, Ollie

I was fortunate enough to replace one of these on mine before fitting another engine. If you can get to the back of the water pump (from underneath is easiest) see if you can feel a rough edge on the engine block where the pipe goes in. That area gets corroded so that may be why you can't get the new pipe in with the new seal fitted. Get rid of the corrosion with a coarse sandpaper, and then apply a little grease to the o-ring. Be careful not to damage the o-ring when pushing the crack pipe in. I place a piece of wood on the end of the pipe and tapped gently but as i said the engine was out so it was a lot easier. Hope this helps.

Kevin

yup, everythings back together right. Well, it's impossible to be put back wrong surely? It was running hot before i changed the crack pipe yeah, now it's running hotter :( sits just above 110, but if i have the heaters on, just under 110. Rather confusing, and annoying as i need to drive it to inters on saturday!
