redders 0
well, here we go then...most of you know my old mk3, after the PVW feature, i set out to make the car look a little different for the up and coming new year, trawling through ebay and god only knows how many other web sites to find some new wheels, knowing that a simple change of wheels would be enough to put a new lease of life into the car... the car made it to ultimate dubs, but not before a few phone calls had been exchanged and the car was due to be sold on the monday after after ultimate dubs, i took what would be my last drive back up the country before the new owner came to buy her...monday came and went and the car was in the hands of the new owner, been driven down the country, for a WHOLE new lease of life.money in hand it was time to do the deal on the new car... unfortunetly, the deal went tits up... and i was left without a car and only 1 day to find one before i had to get back to work... i had obviously been looking at cars non stop for weeks, and i had seen on more than one occasion an amazing looking flash red mk3 in newcastle... bids were at £3199 and was looking to go for alot more, but he had a mobile number on his add, so i rang it and made him an offer.... the old man was employed for the drive up north that i planned to make in the morning, but my dad, been a huge VR fan said, lets go get it now... bearing in mind it was currently 9pm... anywho, another call was made to the seller, and before i knew it, we were on our way up the A1 and hit newcastle at about 11:30 pm... the seller was more than genuin, the car was amazing, it had seen a full blow over, lether seats, some nice porsche wheels, some suble performance mods, but most importantly the car just super clean... and relativly unknown in the VW world... my old man even managed to swing £30 in the tank for the drive home too.the drive home was amazing, the noise, the feel, everything was brilliant...i woke up in the morning earlier than early, and got the cleaning cloths out...there were a few rust bubbles on the lower of the arches that i hadnt spotted under the petrol station lights, and one or 2 tiny problems, but other than them, the car was perfect... i was scrawling through the classifieds section as usual, when someone bumped a pretty rare recaro cloth interior to the top of the page, the member hadnt been online for months, and it didnt look to have sold... to only contact details were an email address, so i bombarded the address with my contact details and begged him to get in touch with me... and then about a week later, he did... and once again, me and the old man in his van, were on our way BACK to newcastle to collect the interior...once back i wasted no time in getting it fitted, i used a wallpaper steamer to steam clean the seats and door cards, and it came up amazing, and looked like it had never been sat in, and the previous owner had been nice enough to buy 2 complete sets of brand new plastics for the saets to keep them looking fresh once the interior was in, i set about sorting the front 2 wings to make the body work mint... i found a brand new, genuin, fully painted passanger wing on ebay, and was on its way to me for £30, and the other wing was in the good hands of my friend simon, once again, sorting me out, cheers mate...while the wings were off, the coils and inner arches were cleaned up... why not... heres a quick pic of why the front wings were rotting from the inside outwards... both were the same, i was abit gob smacked to be honest, no wonder the wings rot if they hold this amount of crap..in the mean time id bought a few metres of carbon vinyl, and realy went to town with it, heres what i got up to with it...and finally i did this... which is the only carbon vinyl left on my car as after id finished and fitted it all, i had a change of heart and decided i didnt like it and it had to come off...http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4020/4481972900_7f9041a4ae.jpgi also lamin-x'd the head lights and indicators as the fully blown chrome was a little too much for me, but i loved how clean it looks, so i chose to go for the light tint over the gun smoked...once the body work was sorted, i set about "finishing" the interior... i wanted something that would be subtle, and smart, but still a little different, but i didnt want to do it black... so on a sunny sunday afternoon, heres what happened http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4054/4550574242_92b6da6a60.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/4550577620_0f7d63a644.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4032/4549939953_f2dec26d1c.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4020/4549944441_aecb179673.jpghttp;//farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/4550581996_2a7337de63.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4063/4549946489_613f7c466b.jpgi dont have one of it all fitted as i was quater to 10 when id finished fitting it all back in but ill get some, i sprayed up the sunroof motor cover, the sunroof switch, the sunroof seal, the roof handles, the seatbelt sliders all in black, the front handles have sice been sprayed too. whilst on one of my usual trawls through the classifieds section, i was lucky enough to stumble upon this little beaut, literly one minuet after it was posted up... needless to say i snapped it up... id wanted one ever since i saw chris9n's, as i think they just look perfect, it arrived friday morn, so while i was a little quiet at work... i sprayed it up with a few coats of matt black, and fitted in my dinner hour... job done...img]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4016/4550606102_efe7112fe8.jpgthe fin will be getting colour coded, its just that im super impaitent and wanted it on now as most of you know, ive been on the hunt for new wheels ever since i bought the car, as the porsche twists, even tho they are a nice wheel, simply arnt my kind of wheel, and just dont do it for me... so the wheels went up for sale, and a nice chap called scott came down on the saturday to collect the wheels, i called upon my good friend TAZ, (odb) who lent me a set of AVEZ's wheels to roll on for a few week till i get the new hoops sorted, and since he lent me the wheels, i told him id polish the lips up for him...once me and scott had shaken hands, and cash was exchanged, i was in the vr shooting towards hull to pick up some wheels that were more than special..and nice and clean...they are breyton split rims, made by oz racing, 17x8 all round, with an et of +42... which should be perfect when ive finished playing with adaptors... fully polished lips and barrels with powder coat chrome centres... im going for a LITTLE more ride comfort and drivability than my last creation, so im choosing 195/40's all round... unsure on adaptors yet as i need to have a mock up... anyone got any BMW adaptors....??? im sure you will agree the wheels will make the car, but now i have to wait... but it will be worth it... hope you enjoyed the write up so far... as usual, ill update jon.r productive dinner hour... been a tyre fitter does have its perks sorted the camber to within two tenths of a MM tonight, the car feels great again, so im happy, still gonna get her set up on sat tho... played with the front coilovers, got it sitting pretty much where i want it at the front, will do the rears at the weekend when i can get hold of a decent enough C spanner to free off the coilovers, im thinking just another 5 or 10mm, and she'll be sitting pretty sweetsome pictures hope you like
