Ben Seabrook 4
Well slightly later than planned due to my general laziness and the fact I was forced to go to Germany visit the Nurburgring and have vast amounts of fun here is this months feature car ! This month the lucky member is Tony. Now I am sure that most of you will have had some sort of dealing with this particular character so introductions probably aren't necessary however for the lucky few here you go ! Tony is well known to most due to his encyclopaedic knowledge of the VR6 engine and his ability to break everything, normally more than once ! Seriously though he is always more than willing to lend an ear or a spanner to help out a member in need and has had a hand in maintaining, upgrading and advising on most of the cars on this forum. In between being the good Samaritan Tony has found time to start the creation of his very own VR6 track car. Not one to do things by halves he has attacked this project with his usual enthusiasm and knowledge and is now well on the way to creating a very sorted car. It all started so innocently though as Tony explains “the first time I went down the strip at Santa Pod in my cabby I got addicted to it, I managed to get a 14.5 sec 1/4 mile time and said to my self "I need to go faster". So he started to think and decided that an already over heavy and non track friendly cabriolet wasn't the best starting point so “ I got myself a nice mystic blue 3 door from a fellow member and started to mod it. I then managed to get a 14.6 sec 1/4 mile N/A so decided that I had come all this way so I might as well keep going. I pulled all the interior out and fitted a drivers seat and harness few more engine mods and started to run again†So now the project is further along the line, the Vortech charger, Schrick manifold and a host of other engine and body modifications are now on Tony hopes for better times “I hope to get into the low 12s with my charger and NOSâ€.However things haven't always been plain sailing with Tony's car's and he is well known for an uncanny ability to break the unbreakable ! A fact even he admits “I have had my ups and downs with cars as most people know and have been called The Dark Destroyer once or twice throughout the year†However he always manages to stay upbeat throughout these setbacks and then comes back bigger and better !He is a regular on the show scene although he and the car normally spend more time blasting up and down the strip rather than cleaning it and having it sat on the stand ! But as we have said on more than one occasion this club is about all aspect's of VR6 ownership and Tony fully embraces the speed side “Santa Pod is like my home from home and funnily enough hosts my two favourite shows for racing VW Action and Bug Jamâ€, and even though his mind is pre-occupied with trying to race anything and everything in site he still finds time to help out other members and in-between runs up the strip can often be found underneath someone's VR in the car park, fitting or fixing something ! As Tony generously says “ if your new and not sure on anything on your car just ask and ill do my best to help out and if you don't see me at a show you will definitely hear me on the strip so just give me a wave as I fly past but please watch out for flames !!â€Tony appreciates though that all this would have been much more difficult without the support of his fellow members and his premium membership “I would not have been able to do this without the great friends I have made from the club that are always willing to help out no matter what the weather and time and not forgetting the premium membership which has saved me £££ over the last few years and helped to get to where I am nowâ€.So there you go, anyone who gets to a show this year should have a look around this car and see what a truly track, drag strip focused car looks like. A car built purely for speed and lightness, the time, energy and dedication that has gone into this car is an inspiration to anyone wanting to go down the same route and is a true performance VW.The person behind the car.Name: Anthony WalterForum user name: tonyvrscAge: 28Occupation: Spanner monkey (mechanic)Location: KentHobbies: cars women and beer all at once if possibleLikes: fast cars and fast womenDislikes: people who bull shit u ....Car questionsFirst car?: mk1 golf 1.1 mars redCurrent car?: mk3 golf vr6 Dream car?: hmmm tough one there are a fare few ....Other cars owned?: mk2 golf 1.3, mk3 golf cabby 2.0 then went to vr6, vaux corsa, vaux astra, vaux astravanWhat got you into Dubs?: my first car really loved that car wish i still had it .
