Ben Seabrook 4
does it run ? anymore symptoms ? I presume it's a golf - obd1 or 2 ? any recent work done to it ?
Jess_smif124 0
yeah it runs, no more symptoms that I know of, apart from a squeaking noise from the engine. Yeah it is a golf, i don't know if its a obd1 or a obd 2 and all that ive had done is the alternator tensioner.
RAPgolfvr6182 2
what year is your golf?

legvw 0
Is your battery light on when the engine is running? Have you got a multi-meter to check the voltage at the battery to see if the alternator is charging/working?
Jess_smif124 0
no the battery lights not on and i dont have a multi-meter
Ben Seabrook 4
ok so it runs but when you press the accelerator nothing happens ? or does it build up slowly ? does it idle ok ? what reg is the car ?sorry for all the questions but should help to solve your prob
Jess_smif124 0
at first it was building up slowly but it was getting slower. it idles fine and its a N reg.i dont mind the questions lol
Ben Seabrook 4
ok well if it idles fine that it sounds like a problem only under load which might suggest throttle postion sensor or fuel delivery, have you got vag-com ?
Jess_smif124 0
wot vag-com? lol i think it might be somei=thing to do with the fuel pump 2 be honest coz i did let it get quite low on petrol. do u think it might be abit blocked or sumin?
Ben Seabrook 4
ha ha check this thread http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?146266 and see if there is someone who is local to you who can come round and check the car for faults etc.Letting it get low on fuel shouldnt affect the pump tbh but it may have gone so it wont cope when you push the car but will be fine at idle !if there is someone local to you would get them to vag-com it to check before spending any money though

Ben Seabrook 4
lol sorry !!! what happened this morning ? the same problems again ?
Jess_smif124 0
well i was havin a look yesterday at the engine yesterday and there is a thing under the aternator tensioner what the belt goes on and that was a bit wobbly but i duno its that what was making the noise this morning. but also iv buckled my wheel so it gota limp 2 lol!!
VR6Nat 9
I think its to do with your alternator not getting enough charge, which would also be realeted to a problem with the whining... its all connected... there is obv a problem with one of the pulleys, whether its lose or the bearings are gone....Best bet is to take the slack off the belt check each pulley separately to see if they spin smooth, and if there is any play in them... also check the belt itself to make sure its ok... im pretty sure all your problems stem from that somehow... Jess_smif124 0
ok il try and get someone 2 do it for me this weekend. im really scared its guna break n im skint as it is lol
VR6Nat 9
well if i was you i wouldn't drive it, you dont want to run the risk of making it worse... if you're handy with tools then its really easy to have a look yourself... then once you know what is causing your problem you can take it to someone to fix it if you cant do it yourself... but if you dont feel confident enough then get it to a garage and at least you roughly know what to expect.... fingers crossed it will be something simple though... Jess_smif124 0
il try and do it lol!! it sounds simple! but its probley not. i think iv reached the point in my life when iv got 2 buy a haynes manual lol!!
VR6Nat 9
It really is simple, you just need to put a hex bolt into the belt tensioner and turn it til the belt slackens, then spin each thing and listen to it, it should all spin freely (except the crank) you really should become a premium member, there are loads of how to guides and documents to help you... you dont need a haynes manual, plus they dont actually do one for the vr6! lol. there is a Bentley manual but you'll be lucky to get a cheap one... just become premium and all your questions will be answered... :)

VR6Nat 9
well the next meet will be towards the end of next month, but depending on who comes it may be held in Colchester.... all bar one car met at Colchester and headed down there... so we were thinkin if its the same people again we might as well stay in Colchester and save the hassle...
