muttley 0
i wasn't sure where to put this topic as i dont know where the noise is coming from.I have what i describe as a flettering whining noise coming from my engine bay some where, it doesnt do it when the car is stationary it is only when the car is moving. i hear it in every gear but it does get louder as i move up gears. very loud in 5th. i originally thought it was my clapped out old alternator but i have replaced that now.My release bearing is making a squeek noise as i release it but this has only been happening for the past 3 weks or so. so i dont know if that is anything to do with it. and also my chains are a bit noisy to :Swould it be worth changing my gearbox oil and engine oil as i dont know where its coming from. VR6Nat 9
Is it def an engine noise?? Not a whurrr like a wheel bearing?? if not then it could be your belt tensioner pulley, the bearings can go after a while, its a 10 min job to check it so might be worth doing that first. VR6Nat 9
hmmm.... weird, if your belt tensioner goes it whines when you drive, as mine did, but it also rattled on tick over, you can only hear this when you are stationary and looking at the engine, might be worth a check anyway as its easy to do, also you could jack the car up and give the front wheels a pull about, if one has movement when you pull the top and push the bottom and the other doesnt then its prob a wheel bearing.... they are the easiest things to check, other than that i dont know... ill leave that to someone else to answer, lol. VR6Nat 9
See this thread for how to take the tensioner off... http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?155363 i took mine off and gave the pulley a spin and it was propa rough feeling, then you know its that! lol, if it spins freely you're ok. Plumber 0
not alot. but i believe 100 percent youve found your problem. Its definately the gearbox without doubt, it will continuously make that noise until it goes. gearbox cost me 80 and to get it fitted costed me 220. but that was including a clutch too. VR6Nat 9
I guess you are gonna have an expensive time of things, if you're gonna change the gearbox id do the chains while you're there too... get them done out of the way.
