davemurphy7 0
Hi all. Car is running spot on appart from stoppin at junctions after about 8 miles of running? If you are coming to a junction and i give it a little rev when i am changing down it is fine, but just roll up to a stop with my foot on the clutch and it stalls. but let the clutch out again and it will fire again?I have cleaned the ISV and the pipework. Did think it was sorted but it isn't. Any ideas and thoughts would be mucho appreciated. Cheers,Dave.
Scott 0
could be a vacuum leak, or a gummed up butterfly valve in the tb, the wee idle air gap is tiny, my gti used to do this all the time, cleaned the TB and butterfly flap both sides as well as the tube, perfect. Tried doing it from the outside but didnt work, taking it off and scrubbing both sides of the flap did the trick tho.I believe the strong vacuum from overrun in gear pulls the flap tight into the goo, sealing the idle air gap (1mm notch) and cutting the engine out. There are of course other things like vac leaks that can do this, harder to find them but make up a cap that fits the MAF tube, remove the MAF and fit plumbing cap with tyre valve glued into a hole in the centre of it, secure with a jubilee and pump with a footppump to about 10-15psi, then listen for hissing, spray fairy liquid bubble mix over pipes and look for big bubbles lol, cant get drawn into the engine cos of the escaping air, but will find the leak. The caps are white pvc drainage cap or blank from a diy store, and a tyre valve from kwikfit, drill a hole for the valve base (the bit between the seal lips) and pull the valve thru the hole, then seal with glue round the edges of the valve base. davemurphy7 0
Cheers Matey. I think it sounds like it could be the throttle bod. Did look a bit manky when i took the inlet off to do the isv. Cleaned the outside but like you say, could do with a good clean on the inside. Cheers for the advise.
