rear lower trim mk3 bumper

Recommended Posts

bummer........thought i might get away without having to get another bumper when i have to fit towbar, have to cut a 50mm square from the black trim,

any ideas? was going to try to do similar to the tow eye cover thing and make a removable piece in the trim, not intending to leave the towbar on permanently

I know a guy, known as 'Stud' on Club GTI who has a removable tow bar on his Mk3, and you can't see it when removed. As I recall, he has a flush tailgate and the number plate in the back bumper, and the towbar fits where the number plate goes, so the hole is covered by the plate when not in use.

Rob,

I have a removal Bosal towbar on mine. As you say you have to cut a square in the lower part of the bumper.

VW do a STANDARD part that you can get to clip back into the hole, very much in the same way the one for the tow eye does. When the cover is in place you don't really notice it.

I think it was about £15 - which is a lot for a bit of plastic, but it does the job. The part is obviously moulded so that it fit's the shape of the bumper perfectly.

Obviously you need the cover before you cut the hole so that you cut it to exactly the right size.

I'm not in my car today but when I get home I'll get the part number for you.

BTW there are two types - one that is just black plactic (mine) and the other is one that can be sprayed - I think that is for the 'colour' special addition Golfs as their bumbers are colour coded including the bottom strip.
