kawark 0
Hi,Need to change the rear brakes on my vr and just wanted some assistance. I have owned my standard vr for 10 years and never had to change the rear disks and pads... Car now has 89000miles and are obviously knackered and with the mot coming up wanted it right..I have just purchased some genuine disks, set of pads, bearings and abs rings to do the job properly. When I have unpacked everything it looks quite straight forward but remember reading something about pressing the bearings into the disks??Is this really necessary as it looks a simple job to knock them in.Any advise would be appreciated.RegardsMark
CALICO 130
you can knock them in with a hammer and blunt punch easy enough 20 minutes per side
craggsy 91
You can just tap them in, i use a suitably sized socket and a hammer. Just make sure they go in straight.Or just take em to a garage to press them in for ya, would cost a tenner and a lot less hassle
muttley 0
i need to do mine as well do you just tap them in as far as they will go like on the 16valvers
RAPgolfvr6182 2
yes theres a limit to how far they will go in as there tapered so will only knock in so far as craggsy said they need to be knocked in square and not taping each side at a time, as this can up set the seating of the bearings as one side might be in slighty more than the other side
