Switchblade key

Recommended Posts

I can cut older VW keys and can bring blanks and machine to meets. I can't recode chipped keys though.

ah so I guess that doesn't include VR keys then as they need the transponder in them for the ECU immobiliser cut off ?? does that mean the only way to get a second key is to get it from VW ?

I've just had a blast through the whole linked site and there are a few issues:

1. As VR's are coded keys you would have to transfer the chip over to the new style keyfob.

2. Your existing remote central locking fob would have to have the circuit board cut up and squeezed into the new style fob as they are different shapes.

3. What's wrong with the oem original?

ok, Graham (vr6highline lover and myself bought a job lot of these keys in from the states a few years back.

the fob is standard mk4+ but the key is a mk3 style key with the hinge adaptor built in to suit the 'flip'

the transponder chip is a totally different shape and we had to remove the chip and tape it to the reader beneath the ignition cowling. This is all very well if you have an aftermarket alarm and immobiliser but not so clever if you rely on the oem security.

Also at the time we where messing about with these, there was no easy way of coding the lock / unlock feature of the fob to the cars existing alarm central locking interface..

A lot of hasstle for a key that doesnt fully function, but thats just my 2 pence worth ;)

not bothered about a switchblade key but bungy if your going to be bringing your cutting tools to a meet would love 2 standard copies' date=' money or beer will be forthcoming :) :) although I still owe you a few beers for the help at Billing !

No worries, i'm sure it'll help a few others out too (have to be premium members though) lol.

I did think Billing was funny. Loads of big burly blokes trying to force there way into a vr6 boot due to keys locked inside.
