VR6Nat 9
well it may be the case that both bearings were out but he only replaced one... but from your description the issue clearly isnt the rear of the car so quite why he didnt think to do the front too i dont know... but hopefully it will just be that and you'll be back to normal again... and a hose is also a nice quick fix too as long as you can get hold of another one!! lol. Keep us updated and give us a shout if you need anything.
Ben Seabrook 4
yeah sounds like a bearing and as for the coolant leak if it's passenger side I would put money on it leaking from the thermostat housing - a very common place for them to go on VR's !! Whats a thermostat housing like price wise and do you know the best place to get one from?? I really know nothing when it comes to these things' date=' thought i did but then my last car was a punto so that says it all :-d[/quote']not much http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Thermostat-Water-Flange-021-121-117A-Golf-VR6-Jetta_W0QQitemZ170385375488QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item27abc28100 or can pick them up from GSF I think ! these often crack or just come loose so before buying it's worth taking it off and having a look over it first - it's in front of the coilpack on the bottom of the block, have a look around it with the car running and with loosing that amount of coolant you should be able to see it dripping out ! SamboVr6 0
Just a quick update for everyone that gave me advice on my car last week. It is now officially fixed!! :-*Just got it back from the garage and the grinding noise was a front bearing as was suggested and my brakes had started rubbing on the smae wheel. The coolant leak was from the radiator so have had that replaced. No more smoking form the grill any more :-dThanks to all for you help and advice, particularly Ben & Nat. Cheers (*) Gold star from me.

Gazbarber1982 3
I paid around £3 for a new thermostat housing gasket from TPS (Manchester) (OEM)), £70 for genuine Bosch additional / aux water pump brand new in a box, £6 for blue header tank cap (with built in pressure release valve) (TPS again)) and 99p for valeo radiator off ebay. Now I have no whining prom aux. pump and no leaks but due to the cold weather I've got 'slush puppy' coolant so will be draining, flushing and replacing with comma xstream g40. If anybody needs additional / aux. water pump and can't get it for less than £75, give me a shout and I will order one through my contact and post at cost!
