I had about 3weeks to get ready for it as he sprung it quite quickly, plus i went on holiday for 2 weeks and the ring so struggled.I pulled it off ok ish........brides dad stole the show big time, like a pro speaker really Link to post Share on other sites

Jamesr_VR6 0 Posted October 27, 2009 Report Share Posted October 27, 2009 I was best man at my mum and stepdads wedding, i wrote the speech out on a roll of toilet paper and then rolled it back up again,I amde them stand up for the speech and as i started talking i unravveled the toilet roll whilst walking around them and covered them head to foot!!! They will confirm what is needed from a formal side who to thank etc etc etcThe best mans speach is supposed to be the highlight so here are some ideas and pick up what will work for you and your crowd. Above all remember you have to make grandma, kids and the bride all smile/blush in an good way.What worked for me:A slide projector.Pictures showing wedded bliss as opposed to their pictures/him/them as kids in the bath/holiday/bad hair/ all those things.. Parents are usually really up for it...I actually started off with a power point on what I was not supposed to say as bullet points - as a note to myself what I mustn't say headed remember Rod dont mention.... then a list about the mother in law/stagnite/hennite/size of brides butt etc etc all with made up/just ok stuff beside each point.., which went down well. I didnt actually say any I just let everyone read them whilst I introduced myself..and started to talk about how long we knew each other and when they met etc etcIf you have known them both a while there are bound to be a how they met story and a picture or 2.Remember always leave them wanting more and confirm you can let them have more whilst at the bar...this is also a good time for revenge but if he is to be your best man in times to come make it count in a good way...My final slide was the good stuff for all the items I must not say but correct..slim bride/love the mother in law etc etcTry not to put to many jokes in there and I found working off a theme meant you get giggles and one big joke worked before the toast...Whilst it doesnt have to be to do with them you can work it in as I dont do jokes ant then do a knock knock and as long as its childish people always laugh just because it is bad and leaves 'em with a smile..Good luck and remember to enjoy it..
