russj249 2
Gave the car a treat today, firstly I gave it a real good wash off. Then went round the car and spent an hour with the chip pen doing every chip I could find on the car.Next I mopped the car with my rotary mop. I used it with 3M finesse-it. I find it really good to get the paint as best as I can and makes the chip pen paint bits not show up.You can see on the bonnet shot the difference between where I have mopped on the left side and haven't mopped on the right. You can see the little raised paint bits. The finally going over with AutoGlym Super Resin Polish. Here's a few pics but started to go dark by the time I'd finished. Forgot clocks went back! russj249 2
Cheers lads.. I left my Mrs round her house today so didn't have to amuse her and I could concentrate on the car. What is it with women that means they cant do something on their own or find something to do. If I'm bored I'll do something, if my Mrs is bored, she'll moan that she's bored and come to me to find something for her to do, that normally is something I don't want to do!! That a woman thing? VR6Nat 9
Ill stand next to ya if i see you at a show, then you can feel MASSIVE. lmao. But anyway, back on topic.... were your swirls really bad before you did that?? and did you use a compund on it??I have a machine polisher and some cutting polishes but they just aint getting thru my swirls, so im thinkin of going onto a tougher compound.... what stuff did you use??
russj249 2
the swirl marks weren't too bad but more cleaning scratches and stuff.I just used my rotary mop with soft pad and 3M finesse-it.http://www.autopaint-pro.co.uk/1l-3m-09639-finesse-it-86-p.aspi like to use it, it takes longer to mop than the harder compound stuff, but I find it's much easier to use as a tiny bit goes a very long way. Less likely to damage the paint than G3 or something like that.I keep my mop on setting 1 or 2max and just let the mop do the work. Don't push down and never keep it still. Move it over the panel constantly.I learned how to mop at work. first time I ever did it my boss gave me his mop (before I had one) some finesse-it and let me loose on a show car Testarossa! I've since done his Mondial T cab and Range Rover Sport! All in the practice
VR6Nat 9
Yeah, ive had some advice from detailling world but the vr laquer is very tough so i need to try some new things... but thanks for the info. car looks great BTW. :)
russj249 2
thanks Nat.by the way. forgot to mention that I flatted the whole car down a while back with 2500 wet/dry paper. Then used G3 after doing that!Might be why it's come out ok now.
