G'day from sunny Australia, just picked up my 94 VR^ at the weekend (rare in oz!!) and I love it!!! Except that it feels very loose in the rear when I turn in. The tyres are poor and will be replaced this week(any suggestions). I am sure that I read on here that rear sway bar bushes are prone to wear, could this be my problem? This is my first watercooled vdub since a MK1 gti when I was in the UK (90's) and is way more complicated than my kombi and the wifes 1302 beetle!!!! I would be gratefull for any suggestions as i know my ozzie bush mechanic will not have worked on one of these before.

PS great forum, almost makes we wish I was back in UK................not

regards dubsurfer

hahah for a start you can stop rubbing in the fact the weather fuel price taxs and government are shit over here.

your spot on, rear axle bushes, poor tyres on the rear, and excessive camber on the front will give you the loose rear end your on about.

PS we still have better roads over here :P

does the rear end actually bounce? if the rear wheels leave the ground then the shock absorbers are almost certainly knackered if its still original then they probably are anyway. have you done the bounce test? go to each corner of the car push your weight down and let go it should go down up and then stop if it carries on bouncing then the shocks are ruined
