spindat45 0
If you have the old style paper driving licence or you know someone who does and they have not had it replaced with a photocard/counterpart licence, please take note!A close friend of mine was routinely stopped by the police last week. All checks on his car were fine but his licence came back as being revoked. As we would all have done, he just accepted that there was some sort of mix up and it would be sorted once he'd contacted the DVLA. He'd applied for and received the new style licence in 2007 (I believe this was the cut off date) but there was a spelling mistake with his name so he sent it back. Shortly after he started working abroad and only returned for short periods before moving house. After contacting the DVLA this week he was informed that a letter had been sent to his old address explaining that he needed to resubmit an application to allow another licence to be issued. Due to work and change of address. he never received this letter and is now looking at 6 points and a fine for driving without a licence. He also has to take a theory and practical drivng test, even though he originally passed in 1996. Not good as he uses his car for work. If you or anyone you know still has this type of full licence, it might be a good idea to make the relevant checks with the DVLA to at least avoid 6 points if somthing unfortunate happens.Kevin
bungy 2
Also the early photo liscences are now up for renewal as they only last 10 years. You have to pay for the privilege of renewal as well.
spindat45 0
You're right there mate. It's a ticking timebomb for a lot of people if you ask me because most think their licence expires when they reach 70. Got to renew every 10 years.
craggsy 91
Its easy money for the police tho by people not knowing that they expire every 10 yrs

ColinT 0
There will be very soon tho mateyWhere are you getting this information from? There's nothing on the DVLA site saying they're phasing out the old style, the European Directive covering driving licences just says they can't issue any more of the old style.
