Miss-Vw 2
Me and my boyfriend have been sharing my first car at the moment whilst the VR is off road for the project, my first car being '97 1.4 mk3 - my previous pride and joy before I got the VR6 Coming out of Sainsbury's and approached a speed bump VERY slowly because the car has been lowered 40mm and this speedbump is way too high, above the legal limit me thinks. Anyway, just got over the hump when I heard a very loud crunch and a bang. O sh*t, i thought. Got out of the car because it was making one hell of a grinding noise, couldnt see anything hanging off so decided to get it back home where I could have a proper look at it. Absolutley cacking myself on the way home because everytime the clutch went down, it felt like the front of the car was slamming onto somethingvery, very hard. Got it home, popped the bonnet and whad'ya know - the whole engine has completely dropped about 3-4 inches, causing the cam belts to rub on the plastic of the inside of the bay, the alternator is resting on something else which is basically keeping the engine from rubbing on the road!! I travelled on the M25 last night to view a VR engine for the project (which had completly f*cked timing chains may i add) - dread to think what would've happened if the engine had dropped at a speed of 80mph on the motorway. Turns out that the 3 pins that were holding the starter motor have come out, and the one remaining has managed to just about stay in, there is also another bolt that holds the engine in place that has also come out, so we are taking a trip down the VW garage tomorrow to get some bolts!! By the looks of it, there is no major damage, car still managed to drive home ok apart from the all mightly clunk when changing gears from 1st to 2nd. The only explanation i can think of is due to the solid suspension and all of the potholes and bad roads in Crawley has caused bolts/pins to vibrate free, cant think what else what have caused the engine to drop. Bit of a shock when I lifted the bonnet I have to say!! Just glad it wasnt the VR6 engine that dropped, that would've caused some damage :S
legvw 0
That is a bit lucky! Had a similar problem with a 205 gti once, turned out the 'apprentice' at the garage forgot to torque the gearbox bolts up-****! I think thats about the same time i started doing work on my car myself ;-)
CALICO 130
i take it the bolts are the subframe bolts at the front of the enginei have heard on a couple of occasions the welds snap on the mounts and drop the engine lucky it didnt take out your radiatori dont know what you mean about the roads in Crawley i think there perfect lol thats why i use the motorway to go to work
