VR6Nat 9
damn thats expensive!! i thought they were closer to 100.... i might just get a LUK one then as i can get a new one from GSF for 80 then 10% VR6OC discount... makes sense i think...???
Ben Seabrook 4
well if you order one from the states they do work out about the £100 mark - yeah it think the LUK ones are ok and I am sure that's what Jim is running on his turbo ?
VR6Nat 9
Is LUK what they put in as standard, cuz thats what someone told me but i didnt know if it was true or not, cuz if it is then its worth it to me, 2 garages that i went to both quoted me on a LUK clutch but i was just gonna go with sachs as ive heard they're better.... ooooooooooohhhhh decisions!!!! :@
Ben Seabrook 4
yeah I think so !! I await to be proven wrong but fairly sure it's a LUK one as standard
patpong_pete 0
Ebay clutch second hand !would never stick an old clutch in my motorgo and buy original Vag one better in the long runwhat about the chains and guides who's fitting all of this and how much have u been quoted?pm me if u worried about telling everyone but why be secret to all forum membersas this is what its all about help advice and info plus a good bunch of guys and 3 or 4 girls
soul-2-soul 3
I have been told today that my chains may need doing as well. Car has only just got to 80k. Been quoted £750 by a garage in London & £750 + VAT by Stealth. Have a friend who is a VW Tech whom I am waiting to come back to me with a price for a private job.Is it worth going for a heavy duty clutch?
VR6Nat 9
Yeah, i did say i wanted a new one.... i wouldnt put anythin second hand on my car unless i kinda have to....and i thought i have already said before what ive been quoted, but ill put it on here anyway...£820 from a vw 'specialist'£700 from another vw specialist£500 from 2 different forum members(these prices include a new clutch and all genuine parts)
patpong_pete 0
Is it worth going for a heavy duty clutch?only it u have heavy foot !if u have Turbo or supergharger 300+ bhp then maybe but std vag will be fine and well up to the job plus nice and soft on the pedal
patpong_pete 0
Nat£500 from 2 different forum members(these prices include a new clutch and all genuine parts) can u pm details i think i know the 2 guys (as i need my sorted in the not to distant future)and sounds good option who told u your chains need replacing u also have the new single chain as yous it later type P reg which should last a lot longer than 100k r they really noisy or u just don't want to risk it going bang

Was getting my exhuast sorted & my mechanic commented that my chains were nosiy. I can hear them but not sure how bad the sound is. The sound clips on here are not that clear for comparison! craggsy 91
I was gonna get mine done as im on 150k. But when we took head off and had a look at top guides there was only about 1mm of wear. Try changing the tensioner first as that can fail before chains/guides
soul-2-soul 3
Thanks guys - think I'll get the car down to Stealth for them to check & see if the chain needs doing. Got some other bits for them to do as well so will not be travelling all that way just for that.
VR6Nat 9
well i was planning on getting all the bits and seeing if they need it, if on the off chance they dont then i can take the bits back, but i dont expect to be that lucky and they do sound rattly, i dont know how bad they are as ive not heard them at their worst for a good comparison. All im thinkin is it will have to be done one day and id rather do it now then risk leaving it another 10k and running the risk of it going bang on me, id be devastated, my opinion is prepare for the worst and if the reult is that i only have to put in a couple of bits then ill be mega happy. Also im goin for the LUK clutch as that is what is put in as standard and it does the job well, i may consider goin up to 300ish bhp by turbo or charging it, but that will be in a year or two and i think the standard clutch is suitable for that from what ive heard before....Tony (cabrioman) and Also Dlea are the guys on here that can do it that i know of, worth asking them if they have the time to do it for you. Dlea was goin to sort the parts for me but i said to tony i would source them myself to make it easier for him....
VR6Nat 9
and i believe, if im right in thinking that mine still has 2 chains, 2 guides, 2 tensioners and 1 tensioner bolt that will need replacing, all of a cost of around 200 for genuine vw (personally i wouldnt use anythin else cheaper or not)I am going to start a thread of parts needed to make sure i have the right stuff so look out for that if you want to know what you need to get,.....
