mck684 0
hi all,i have a 93 k vr6 3 dr in black i havent had it long. when i bought it it had a towbar fitted (this was a factory fit from a vw dealer its all in the service history). i hate the look of the towbar and want to remove it. however, the guys at vw have actually cut a hole through the black plastic 'skirt' on the bottom of the bumper to poke it through. is the black plastic 'skirt' or piece of trim at the very bottom of the rear bumper actually part of the the bumper? or is it separate. i had a look but couldn't really see this very well. also does anyone have any advice on removing tow bars as this one appears to have electric supply to it. thanks. 8-)
amazak 3
It is seperate. Are you referring to the black plastic bit that has cut outs for the exhaust tailpipes as well?

craggsy 91
It might be seperate but it is riveted on I beleive. Ive never had back bumper off so cant tell you for sure. just know its a permant fix
amazak 3
Yeah I think Craggsy might have a point, I have seen mk3's without them on.
Rikki 2
Its part of the bumper. I had this on mine got an old bumper and cut the black bottom part off and trimmed it so it is flat and stuck it over the hole!
mck684 0
ah right thats one way of doing it! did it look ok? did you put the bit in flush so its smooth or stick it over the top?i might consider trying to get hold of the black bit of trim from a breaking car and try and attach it on to the bottom of the bumper. hope it wont be to difficault.you dont happen to have a picture of the bumper repair you did do you? :^)

MAHOSTRIDERDG 0
I know the tow bar dont look great buddy but think about leavin it in..everybody i know told me to leave mine in even though it hasnt been used in 3 years...a few days ago a girl behind me started her car in gear and gave me a nice thump ..thankfully she hit my towbar and not my bumper or exhaust...saved me a headache i think.... mck684 0
thanks for the pictures rikki you can barely notice it. i figured out what the deal is with the bumper anyhow... the bit on the bottom is actually part of the bumper. its not even riveted on or anything its actually the bumper itself, on my model the colored part (in my case black) basically clips on over the bumper to give the appearance of a separate bottom part. so i go in ebay and buy a second hand bumper for 10 quid (wrong colour but i dont need that bit) turns out that its a slightly different style of bumper and the plastic removable bit is not actually removable! :@ so i had to put the old one back on. how annoyed was i?must be a revised newer bumper or something.
