Bobtrude 0
Ok, just had to ask since I have done a headgasket change. (dropped the comp to 8.5)I got cylinnder 1 to TDC.Checked the timing here: Made my own cam tool and slotted inn. Installed the gasket and spacer.Checked the timing on the crank pulley again. Wrapped the chain around the front camgear (so there was no slack) and then over the rear one. Cams where still where they should be. My question is:If the cams are slotted into place, AND the crank pulley is timed, AND there is no slack on the opposite side of the chain tensioner. Is the car now timed? Thanks:). FishWick 21
Providing you didn't turn the engine whilst the cams were off, then yes, it should be timed.I would turn it a few times by hand and make sure it's still timed correctly. Also double check the intermediate sprocket timing marks are still OK. You can get a small mirror and light down there.

Is it the sprocket that the upper chain is connected to?
FishWick 21
You can only see it looking through a hole in the intermediate sprocket. Should be an arrow pointing north (or south). If it's pointing anywhere else, the sequential timing will be wrong and the injector end time will need to be corrected in the software.
Bobtrude 0
ok, think i located it in the "diy" changing chains and tensioners on vw vortex. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1264409On nr 32. Thanks for the info:).

jeffvr6 0
Hi, does anyone know the tricks of setting the timing on mk3 vr6. I did a headgasket change, new valve seals, head shaved. After I followed the installation proceder put everything back togather I started it up and it sounds like a diesel, (btw I never removed or touched the lower timing chain and sprockets). I then checked compression and #1-6 are not getting compression. I am totally stomped what could be the problem?
