russvr6 0
ok how much does it cost and how do i replace it?
SankysVR6 1
Not sure about cost. But all you would need to do, remove the cap off the expansion tank when the engine is cold.Unplug the wire from the sensor, and then there is a metal spring clip holding it in place. Remove that an the sensor should pull out. Make sure you also get the rubber O ring if it hasn't come out with old sensor. This might help
russvr6 0
ok i ordered the sensor from VW today £10 plus O ring but the bloke in parts reckons its the one in the rad that needs replacing

rigs 0
The one in the rad controls the first and second speed of the fan. The sensor in the water housing controls the 3rd speed.
russvr6 0
right well the 3rd speed is fine that comes on sounds like a hover craft but speed 1 and 2 dont come on. But when speed 3 comes on if you turn the ignition off the speed does go down

russvr6 0
hello can anyone suggest anything
SankysVR6 1
Not being funny, but did you get the brown sensor from VW for £10? and have you fitted it or tried it.If not i would go with whats being offered above and change the sensor on the rad first, and see what happens. At the end of the day if the brown sensor dosen't work its not a lot of money to lose to get the fans working properly. russvr6 0
yeah the sensor was from vw. On one of the connectors on the plug that goes on to the sensor on the rad has crusty green stuff on it was wondering if maybe that would stop the connection also none of these sensors came up on vag com
rigs 0
HELLLOOOOOOOO.It's the one in the bloody radiator.Stick a bit of wire across the pins on the plug on radiator - if the fans start your sensor is buggered.
russvr6 0
the 3 pins on the sensor or the fan plug a bloke at vw thinks the thermostat might be blocked as both hoses get hard and the top hose gets red hot while the bottom is cold
rigs 0
That'll be your problem then. If the thermostate is stuck shut your radiator won't be getting hot so the sensors probably fine. Presumably your car overheats if you leave it standing?I'll state the obvious just in case: Dont drive it until you fix the thermostat unless you fancy doing a headgasket too. russvr6 0
yeah the guage goes up to the 110 mark then the fan kicks in on stage 3 and never seems to go off

russvr6 0
The top hose was hot and the bottom was cold apparently the thermostat is common for going on vr's
