Miss-Vw 2
Hi all, Just started to notice a problem with my 1994 VR6, it seems to reach 100 degrees quicker than usual and im not sure why, espeically with this cold weather. It had a new water pump fitted a few months back and is beginning to sound ever so slightly rattly when I lift up the bonnet. Its done just over 119k chassis miles, but had an OBD2 engine fitted with 89k miles last year and Im really starting to worry that the slight rattling noises are the timing chains on the way out. Ive listened to a few sound clips of dodgy timing chains, and it could be worse...is it a gradual noise that gets worse or does it start without warning? As for the temp problem, any ideas? It pretty much shoots up to 110 degrees when im sitting in slow moving traffic, and the fan kicks into overdrive which you can hear whilst in the car.
xyber 1
oil and filter change will probably sort it
craggsy 91
The fan thing could well be the fan sensor in thermostat housing. Same problem I have....only one setting on sensor working, it should put your fan on gently to keep temps down. Thats why im changing mine as mine just gets warm then the fan comes on full blasst
