Hoe do you know if its engine mounts?

Recommended Posts

I am getting a judder when engaging 1st gear and reverse, when you engage 1st with hood up you can see movement on the engine which makes me think its the mounts but want to be sure ie engine or gear box.How can you tell, if it is this any recommendations for a 2.9 in a mk3. Thanks

put the handbrake on. Get someone to put it in first gear and lift the clutch up and down (like you would if your racing someone at traffic lights to make the front of your car go up and down if that makes sence)

While there doing that look at your mounts to see if thats excessive movent and check them to see if there broken/ damaged

As above if your gearbox one looks like that its shafted

Hope that helps tom

yep' date=' three. one middle front, one by the gearbox, as pictured, and the last one - the rear engine mount - somewhere else *-)

At the back of the engine on the drivers side below the brake servo (r/hand drive cars). Sometimes covered by a metal heat shield plate. this one usually gets left as it's a bit awkward to change.
