SHARKY 0
Hi guys,Had lots of damp in the car recently and it's been doing my head in.Anyway, by chance today I touched the roof lining above the 'A' Pillar drivers side and its damp.Checked the passenger side and thats damp too. Both are, roughly from the grab handle to the top of the 'A' pillar. Looks like the water is running down the 'A' pillar trim onto the lower trim then the floor.I had the screen out when it was resprayed and also had the sunroof seal replaced at the same time so thats been out and out back too. I'm sooo hoping its not the screen... :S Anyone got any ideas? *-) Also, the writing on the sunroof is now towards the back of the car - I'm sure it was at the front before the respray... Can anyone confirm this? Does it matter which way the glass goes in? I've noticed that theres a black eddging on the glass itself and its wider at one side than the other so I'm thinking it could be in the wrong way. If anyone could confirm - maybe a piccy??Also, could anyone tell me where the join in the seal is on their car - does this matter??Anyway guys, I'd appreciate any help on this as its bloody wet in Bolton and my lovely red roof lining is suffering - as am I!!Cheers for any comments/ advice... golfgirlvr6 0
Hi, just had a look at mine, the writing is at the back, are the drainage pipes for the sunroof blocked?
SHARKY 0
Hiya, Thanx for clearing up the writing thing... Where is the join on your sunroof seal? Also, how flat does it sit - I'm now getting paranoid that its too low at the front and too high at the back - I'll take a piccy in the daylight and try to post it.Yes the drainage pipes at the front are clear - checked that, not checked the ones at the back yet - not so easy - i'll have to get under the car and work from that end.Any ideas anyone.... golfgirlvr6 0
try getting the drainage pipes blown out with an air hose, just to make sure, it should tilt forward slightly(lower at the front) when fully closed. When you post a pic i will double check for you!
golfgirlvr6 0
Just checked the seal on the glass, and the join for it is on the drivers side. I do doubt very much that its your screen leaking!
SHARKY 0
Hiya again...You're a (*) My seal joins in the middle at the front - think I'll sort that out when the weather drier.I'm doubting that though as if water gets in it sits in the tray and goes down the drains - and they're clear - just had some wire down them and a couple of litres of water down each - very free...As for where it sits - the front is maybe 2mm lower and the back is maybe 1 - 2 mm higher. I've read in the Bentley manual that its about right by they're instruction...Just hope the tray's not cracked somewhere...Thanx again there golf girl I'll sort that piccy... SHARKY 0
Hey guys...Thought I'd update my own thread here..RIght, had the window removed and resealed - still leaking!! Although I know the screens not! £40 well spent methinks.I've had the sunroof out and sorted the seal into the correct location (join above the drivers head). I've also had a fiddle with the seal itself - according to the Bentley manual you can change the sprung load of the seal by spreading the seal apart. Did this a little and I think I'll do it some more. Now, the leak still persists. So I'm now looking at taking the headlining out to check if the sunroof trays cracked and/ or the drain tubes have perished... Has anyone ever changed a drain tube? Easy?? Could the tray have gone/ split?? I can't see it being the sunroof drain tray thing... Anyone had any probs with thiers? Do they break? Unless it warped or somethign when they resprayed the car (heat from the booth)????I know the drains run clear - checked MANY times!!!Anyone with ANY other idea before I start dismantling the interior of my car? I really don't want to damage my red head lining - and it'd be sods law that I do! Any help/ comments guys would be most helpful...Cheers...
Moochalargo 0
mate i had this problem with my birds car!did my head in for ages!! asked everyone no luck!!peoples even said "oh yeah ! that will be the pollen filter and leaves blocking every where" NOT!!!!any way i found her problem after hours of looking and pooring water everywhere! If you look in the door shuts at the front end of the car (A pillar) there is a bung there with a cross shape to its end! this had become unattached from the sunroof drain up inside the a pillar allowing water to go on to the floor! i refitted the bung to the metal pipe using a thin tube and pushing it down the drain and contorting my arm up in to the inside of the pillar! then pushing the tube out of the hole where the bung lives!! once you are at this stage you can thread the bung over the tube and in to the correct place! If these were removed for the respray that is the problem! Good luck and i hope you can understand!! lol im havin trouble lol
SHARKY 0
Hey there...Thanx for the sympathy... glad I'm not the only one lol. It's really doing my head in! However, my leak is deffo to do with the sunroof/ tray/ drain pipe. The reason I know is that my headlining is wet roughly from the front grab handle mount to the front edge of the head liner (where it meets the 'A' pillar). The water then runs down the inside of the 'A' pillar trim and down onto the lower trim, then round and down by the bonnet pull. Then it goes under the side trim and also runs down the lower trim into the footwell. I also think it's wicking across the roof to the passenger side (unless the passenger side drain is damaged/ perished too).Checked the pollen filter and housing, siliconed the bonnet pull (and anything where I thought it looked like it was leaking) under the scuttle panel. I think you may have a point though. When I got my car back from the respray the nipple thing (the cross shaped rubber) was pushed in a little on the drivers side - maybe they did something trying to get it back through or something - maybe both sides..Cheers for the advice though. SHARKY 0
Right guys - I found my problem - and fixed it. Wooooohoooo!Basically, after removing the headlining and sitting in the car whilst raining (and looking like a nutta) and getting people to hose the car down whilst I was in it I found the problem. The drain hoses that come from the tray had moved!! Not come off - just moved!! I think when I had it resprayed and the moved the drains - they pulled them back out a little too hard. They hadn't come off - they'd just moved a touch. The ends of the drains (at the tray end) are rubber, but a little more stiff than you'd expect and had taken the shape of the drain. When they'd pulled it had just dislodged a little. So what was happening was that a drop of water was forming and when the headlining was in place it was pressing against the drain and wicking the water out.So to correct it I've pulled the drain off, smeared silicone around it and put a jubilee clip on it and put it back. Only a matter of pence... Just be careful not to put too much silicone and block the drain when the pipes being pushed back - only a small amount. I did all four whilst it was off So guys, I hope this information helps others out there who have this problem... It's a pain due to removing the headlining but a simple fix in the end.Hope this helps...
