The Monk 50
Clonking, grinding noise and the car shuddered heavily when braking like it was about to stall, although engine speed and idle stayed the same all while driving.First I thought it was the wheel disc, collapsed bearing or screwed engine mount. Then after visiting my friend, discovred it was the top bolt on the caliper holder had sheared off. The caliper was acting like the leading shoe in a drum brake, pivoting on the bottom bolt and creating a sort of self servo action on the wheel alloy. 2 times in as many weeks, have I been towed/recovered to my house by the AA....great chaps, well, the roadside techs anyway. If ever a particular side of your car starts to make a grinding, violent juddery noise/ sensation and affect the car movement badly, especially when braking, I suggest you check for this.Just an unlikely experience I thought I'd share to give you another possible problem/ solution if something should befall you. The Monk 50
I did the job at 6am this morning, but I didn't think to take any pics while I was doing it. Sorry about that. Both sides of the caliper had dug into the alloy wheel and I have 2 nice wear marks around the circumfrence and a nice big dent where the wheel was dug into.I'll upload some soon.
