Damo 85 0
Hi guys. tried the search function but really just looking for suggestions. here's the symptoms:been running fine for ages, with the occasional missfire when cold on a damp day. Usually it cleared up and ran fine once warm.Last weekend i started it on another damp morning, and it was running pretty lumpy, popping etc under acceleration. thought nothing of it and just took it easy to warm it up. this time it hasn't gone away! it seems as though its firing on all 6 (as by removing any of the HT leads it gets noticeably worse than with all 6 plugged in). This weekend i have cleaned out the TB, removed the leads and replaced with a mates, the plugs are less than 3 months old. there is no oil being burnt as far as i can see and now it's stopped popping, just a very worrying lumpyness and judder on accel, right through the revs. I did notice the coilpack has a few very small hairline cracks, but no arching/sparks at all when running.I'm pulling my hair out with this at the moment... does it sound coilpack related?? ingham 5
try having a look at coil pack and leads in the dark , look for arcing.
Damo 85 0
have looked on a few occasions but nothing there. not a single spark from coil or any of the leads. its almost as if the timings out rather than a miss.... very strange
ingham 5
time for vagcomm then

Damo 85 0
cheers for the responses to this. Looks like we made a bit of a balls up and forgot to change two of the six leads. checked em again the other night in the pitch black, and the two old ones were glowing blue and sparking all over the show. no idea how i didnt see them last time as they are really bad!! so this week she'll be having fresh leads and coilpack fitted, hopefully should be running a bit better then

akz786 0
Which leads and Coilpack did you buy? I have been suggested Quantum leads (original VW I believe) and BERU (from GSF Parts) for the coilpack..are these the ones you replaced with? Thanks
VR6Pete 1,455
BERU are the original VW leads. You can pick up the coilpack from GSF, this is the same make as going to VW... Pete
Damo 85 0
Yeh i went for GSF leads, heard elsewhere to avoid them but to be honest im skint, and they turned out to be pretty decent looking leads. Time will tell how they hold up obviously. coilpack i got through a mate, almost brand new 50 quid. I'll prob replace with brand new later on in the year just for peace of mind but im a happy chap for now!!
