If it's a cone shaped filter then you can't de-cone your airbox as you don't have one anymore! I wouldn't imagine you'd actually notice any difference in power or running but if you do still have the airbox and you want a better sound drill some holes (about 15mm dia) in the wing side of the airbox below the filter.
