How protect arches from rust??

Recommended Posts

I'd get a jetwash behind the lip, blast all the muck out from under there. also check behind the filler cap, as mine was full of damp dirt which had started eating away at the filler pipe too. once you've got it clean, give it a good spray with waxoil or something similar

stop using jet wash and use hose pipe

imo jet washes are the cause of most rust, i only wash my car by hand and have little rust, ive worked at garage that had jet wash and all the stuff inside is corrosive when neat, so no wonder they are making cars rust

look after you body by using wash mit and quantity wash thats ph balanced

i use :MEGUIARS NXT Car Wash

Meguiar's expertise in Engineered Synthetic Polymers (ESP) has provided them with the technology to create a completely synthetic car wash concentrate that loosens and emulsifies even the toughest dirt and road grime. This pH balanced non-detergent car wash contains synthetic lubricating oils which glide contaminants off the surface without marring the finish or stripping the wax. Best way to do arches is buy one of these http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=192 and fill its will a mixture of warm water and tescos/sainburys all purpose cleaner(citrus ones are paticularly good) and have 4 parts water, 1 part APC, spray it on and leave to soak, then agitate with a stiff paint brush and spray again, repeat till spotless, rinse well with a hose and leave to FULLY dry

paint everything out of site with a shed load of waxoyl(the runny stuff, wear gloves as you will get filthy!!) making sure it gets in a the tight spots etc and leave to dry

then give everything in the arches a spray with this stuff http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=41&products_id=328

that'll see you good

tell you what all 4 are my areches are rotten just been gettin quotes for new front wingsa dn my rears welded' date=' 850!!! best quote by far...wish id just taken better care of them

[/quote']

be weary of low quotes mate, most of the expense is labour fees, so if they do a low quote, chances are they'll skimp on the time they work on it and you'll end losing out on quality, it'll looks right, for a while......

no cheap ways to do body work properly unfortunatly

Try and get a recommendation from someone who has used a company in the past

i wouldnt say 850 was cheap?, its a grand with the front wings parts included...

basicaly painnting both sides of the car, welding rear arches and rolling, paintin bonnet and repairin some damage to my bumper,... payin cash

thats a few days work, normally labour charge is around £40 and hour

I would have a very rough guess at 20 hours work there at least

then add parts and materials on top...........

itll be over half the 850 just for decent paint materials

850 is cheep for that work... I wouldn't exspect a full respray with all my pannels in mint condtion at the start for that price. For all that welding and preping ontop id think for a proper desent job your looking around £1200-1300

all the body shops round hear wanted £200 to spray a self preped bumper, told them where to and now im getting a compressor for the same price

its not a ful respray tho...it doesnt include roof rear bumper or tailgate, and think doors are being blended not fully painted..

and im paying 150 for two new front wings ontop so a grand...

just been told im payin way too much and i should be gettin my arches pulled rather than replaced :S
