I've had a lookski at these threads and can't find any posts relating to it. Sorry if there are.

I've bought a non running golf vr6. A project for myself. The chap I bought it off, said the chain had been under tentioned and slipped causing the timing to go out the window. He said the EV on cylinder 6 had bent slightly, HOWEVER, showed me a pic of the piston crown....not damaged, luckily.

The crank pulley timing marks are lined up but each camshaft timing groove is sitting at about 2 O'clock.

I'm taking the cylinder head off and replacing the EV. I have a VR6 timing tool that I will be using.

If the crank pulley timing mark is lined up, can the camshafts be lined up so they sit horizontally and will that mean everything is aligned? :-#

I am aware more material should sit on the lower half.

Also, with taking all of this apart. What cleaning products, lubricating products would you all recommend?

Example....do you lubricate the chains after putting them in place?

What can I use to clean the cylinder head?

What do i use to recoat the camshaft lobes?

Help appriciated.
