surface rust on discs

why do my dics get surface rust on when i wash it only wash with zymol and water then use same on wheels any tips on how to avoid

drive it afterwards?... Theres no reason to avoid is there

i know that but at shows it gets parked then washed thats when it pisses me off

Not unless you get ceramic discs.....as discs are made from cast iron so will rust

Exactly... coating the brakes with something?! can't see what the problem with just using the brakes a bit to clean it off?

As for shows... when you wash your car at a show you probably don't even get the brakes wet

I wouldnt worry, its just really light surface rust, if you touched them with sweaty hands, the next morning you would have rusty prints on them

if you wash it at shows and them want to shift it after, wire wool will sort it

never parked my car at a show before but dont you get room to roll forward and backwards a few meters?

think everyone has missed the point i wash my car and wheels then when it has dried the discs look rusty i dont care about the rust apart from at shows .as for the move it forward and back thats fine but show organisers frown upon the cars moving once on the show field . thanks for the replys guys if anyone knows of a reason for this please let me know

raw metal is just vulnerable to everything in site and will rust or oxidise, sometimes overnight with moisture in the air, so the acids and minerals in the water and shampoo will speed up the process

use brake cleaner? the stuff you use to clean new discs from the protective oil

What about putting bin bags over the wheels while you wash and dry ;-) might give a try when next in a field

if its that bad there are brake companys who make discs that are coated brembo make there maxi discs with a special coating to stop them rusting
