Alpine 0
If I cant get a mate to come with me, what should I be looking out for in general?I know about the usual things, eg bubbling ex tank is poss h/g, b/joints, bearing's, but if the VR's have hidden faults.I'll do a search too, but its just there's somthing I'll miss, cheers.I'll say this (and I'm just being sarky)...if VW are supposed to be so reliable, then why is there so "thing" to look out for when guying lol. jezmoz 0
1. rust on sills, get under the car2. Chain rattle, right hand side of engine, 3. smoke, check the engine from cold for smoke, Also check for smoke when you boot it. Give it a proper test drive and keep an eye on the rear mirror4. check dipstick and oil cap for mayo.5. check all the electrics, windows (everything), mfa onboard comp etc6. Go around the car and look for signs rust, bubbling etc7.Ideally if you have a laptop and vagcom, stick it on a diagnostic 8. Get them to put it through a fresh MOT prior to purchase9. Check all the history if any for the chains being replaced?10. Do a check to see if its been any prangs.
Alpine 0
Thanks, yea I was reading about chain rattle, I know mention about "mayo" under the cap, my mates Merc had that a few years back, but it was simply because it had used on long'ish journey's, but I know that isnt allways the case though.I cant see them putting through an mot, unless its only got about a month ect leftI'll just my eye's n ears open as best I can
jezmoz 0
yeah mayo can also be due to only using them for short journeys haha. Not always a sign of a problem. Give it a good drive and check all the gears, boxes tend to crunch in reverse and first :
