Damo 85 0
I'm looking to remove my engine plastics (lead holders, plastic engine cover etc) to re-spray them back to satin black as they are stained and nasty looking.I got the plastic engine cover and back lead holder out but the piece on the right of the engine as you look at it, and the front lead holder are stuck on by two big torx screws (star screws whatever you want to call them). unfortunately some muppet who last had the car has rounded them off and now i cant undo em.can anyone help with an idea to get these undone ??? well miffed off
Phat VR6 3
Drill the heads off.. Then mole grip the tread off. Weld a tiny nut ontop and use open end spanner (might melt cover). Butcher the cover off then use mole grips (ruff) Use a punch to tap it round. Good luck

binliner 0
sounds like an extreme way of doing it!The right hand cover is held in by 2 spline bolts, I'd try and tap a larger sized torx bit in first and undo them that wayThe front one is held on by 2 screws which are underneath it and just slides off (might need a tap)
Caddymatt1380 0
If they aren't to tight you maybe able to cut a gouge in them big enough to undo with a flat bladed screw driver.
Damo 85 0
yeah good thinking... i'll have a bash with a bigger torx bit or try cutting in a slot for a large screwdriver.... ta fellas!
rodney 17
you have two main options here. If you can cut/lightly chisel a v in it then you can get a flat blade in to it an try and get it that way. the other thing is those gator do-hickies. lots of little spring loaded things in a socket that let you use it on unusual size/shape bolts etc.. (you know what i mean the toy that leaves a face imprint in it made up of nails)good luck
Damo 85 0
cheers guys! managed to hammer in a torx bit that was the next size up and crack them loose. they are all now repainted and fitted again! well chuffed!!
Caddymatt1380 0
You did replace the bolts didn't you?
Damo 85 0
didn't need to tbh... will do at some point, but the bigger torx bit actually made an indent for itself so i can just use that one for now! bonus.
