goonersteve 0
I gave my car a good wash yesterday and since then my key fob won't activate the central locking and alarm. The light on the key fob still comes on when i press the button though. The central locking still works when i use the key, but that doesn't activate the alarm. Not sure if it is just coincidence that it happened after i washed the car or not??Any help greatly appreciated.-Steve
thegoth 5
Might be just that the battery isn't giving much range. LEDs tend to light or not rather than dim as battery fades.Have you got another fob to try? Or tried having the fob as close as possible to the receiver - passenger side behind the battery I guess. Phat VR6 3
Nothink to do with the fact you washed your car dude, well i wouldn't think so anyway First thing you need to do is change the battery in the fob. Im pretty sure that will fix it.. When was the last time you changed it?Did it use to work the central locking even if the doors where open?? If it didn't then a door swich could have gone or broken wire in the loom.. So it still thinks that the door open. There a few things you can try but in the end your going to have to take it to place it was fitted or a alarm shop. but change the battery firstHope this helps Tom
goonersteve 0
Sorry, i should've mentioned it is just the standard original alarm / immobiliser system. I'll try a new battery first, as i think it was on the way out anyway. Just thought it was strange that it stopped working right after i washed the car. Cheers for your help guys. thegoth 5
Did you use it a lot whilst cleaning the car, such as making sure it was locked when going inside for extra cleaning stuff? I do ...don't trust the scrotes for 30s ....Oh, if it's the same as my fob then VW charge a fortune for one. I simply make my own with four individual '393' watch batteries tapped together. jesterwalker69 0
Mine did this.... Went to VW and they said that sometimes the old alarms just pack up and it would be cheaper to get a new after market alarm fitted :-( Got a Clifford 650 II now, happy days :-)

thegoth 5
When I last inquired I think it was £12 + VAT. RichieVR might be able to give a more up to date price.Individual silver oxide cells can be picked up for under £1 each: http://www.active-batteries.co.uk/gp-watch-battery-393brsmall-393-p-302.html?main_page=product_info&products_id=302Assuming we have matching fobs. goonersteve 0
Yeah thats a bit of a difference in prices aint it! Also, in terms of opening the fob. Am i right in thinking you just prise it open with a screwdriver?
thegoth 5
we do have different fobs then. mine has two screws on the back. but yeah a screw driver should do it ;-)

goonersteve 0
Went to the VW stealers yesterday and they said they don't even sell the one i need anymore. Bloke i spoke to reckons he's seen the one i need in 'Maplin', so that should save me a few quid anyway!
