Guest Reefie
Hi, I have a 96 highline and the air con doesn't work. The light comes on but that's about it, being a bit green &| with mechanics are there any simple checks I can, do fuses etc before I end up taking it to the garage.Any suggestions appreciated
DundeeDub 0
it might just need re-gassing??
Guest Reefie
I guess that's a job for the garage then, any idea how much i could expect to be charged for gassing?Don't wanna get ripped off
DundeeDub 0
don't know anything about air con as i don't have it but it seems to be the main problem on other cars
Pittuf 0
Think i've heard values of 30-50 squids mentioned, but I may be wrong %-
tandino 1
Does the compressor kick in when the AC button is depressed ?! ,If its low on gas/pressure then the compressor shouldnt kick in and usually the AC button light wont illuminate to show the system isnt kicking in.If the compressor doesnt kick in when the button is depressed you can manually bridge the low pressure switch (on most cars its found around/on the reciever dryer) and see if the compressor cuts in (only do this for a few seconds as the compressor uses oil in the freon and it will burn out if used for too long with no oil circulating) then there is no gas and you need a recharge.Pete. Guest Reefie
No, the compressor doesn't kick in.The AC button lights up fine.I'll try bridging the switch in the morning and see if that makes any difference. Thanks Pete
VR6Pete 1,455
if the system isnt gassed up enough, the compressor will not kick in, this is to prevent damage. I'm in a similar situation, ive thown over 140 quid at my air con at the mo,and it still doesnt work propeerly, but i have climatronic stuff in though.
