mattp1983 0
Hey I'm a newbie starting a mk2 VR conversion, I have an ecu and am looking at tuning options etc and am unsure as to which engine mine is, its date stamped 28/05/1995, and the ecu number is 021 986 258 CH. The engine is coilpack but am unsure if its OBDI or II so was hoping one of you guys might be able to tell from the ecu. Engine isnt with me you see so I cant check the physical differences. Thanks. VR6Pete 1,455
Hi,initially, it sound like an OBD2... but the only way to tell is to check the differences between the engine really to be totally sure...http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?138840throttle body is the biggest giveaway, but that ECU number closely matches the one in the aformentioned thread, Good luck with the conversion, mine is currently underway with me OBD2 setup from my old mk3.Pete
UnitedMotorsport 55
021 906 258 CH is a OBD1 setup, with a 4 wire maf, it also has an Immobilizer in the ECU.
mattp1983 0
Damn, lol thought that only OBDIIs had the immob, will have to make sure he has the immob box.
VR6Pete 1,455
you will need the key and ingition stuff too.
sparkz 0
021 906 258 CH is a OBD1 setup' date=' with a 4 wire maf, it also has an Immobilizer in the ECU.[/quote'] Are you sure? My first engine setup was a CH code ecu (problematic one too!!) and i never had an immobiliser on the key as it was an OBD1 setup. The CH ecu only came on 1995 obd1 vr's and can be very problematic when tuning especially if your running a s/c!!
UnitedMotorsport 55
Yep 100% sureThere is no problem with these ECU's, N/A, S/C or turbo.Remember its possible to remove the immobilizer.
mattp1983 0
Do these produce the same 174bhp as the early OBDIs? I am keeping the car NA so not too fussed about charge potential, what sort of gains could I get from a chip/remap? I have a decat pipe (small baffled box one so hopefuly no rasp) jetex ss mk2 exhaust and a ram air big one.
amazak 3
Yes it is the same, my 1995 model says 174bhp in the owners manual and it also has the 258 CH ecu.
