VR6Pete 1,455
all 2.8's had the same engine code i think, what YEAR is your golf? as if its an obd2 you will need to either convert the ABV engine to ob2, or vise versa! earlier VR's came with dizzy and different ECU than the OBD2.Pete
leespeza123 0
hi again my golf is 1995 model i looking to buy the 2.9 from the corrado to put in mine bu ti think mine is the aaa code the guy selling the engine as all the wiring to so do u think it will be hard to fit
rodney 17
basically mate all 2,8 engines have the AAA code. the 2.9 code is different and is ABV. The engines will fit however the reason the guys are asking you the age is that you then need to make sure you are swapping OBD2 for OBD2 as if the 2.9 is OBD1 then the ECU and wiring is different! If the engine has a coil pack then it is 2 if it has a dizzy the a 1. there is a link on here to help you picture which is which so have a look before you buy something you can't fit or then have to install the new wiring loom. binliner 0
If the engine has a coil pack then it is 2 if it has a dizzy the a 1No wonder people get confused!! Whether it has a distributor or coilpack had nothing to do with it being OBD1 or 2 there are plenty of OBD1 cars with coilpacks!

binliner 0
hi again ok i understand this now can someone tell what year engine a 2.8 aaa code is 190 bhpAll 2.8 Golf VR6s had AAA engine code (174bhp not 190bhp) regardless of year but the engine management and throttle body (and a few other things) was changed around 1995. Early cars have OBD1 later cars have OBD2. If your car is OBD1 the corrado engine will just be a straight swap if it has OBD2 you will need to change some of your loom and ecu.If you click on the link further up the page you should find pics of the differences between the 2 so you can identify yours
