acf8181 0
vr6 are supposed to idle at 500-700the ISV is the silver cylindrical thing at the back of the engine under the plug lead guides, next to a big black plastic thing. not sure if obd2's have them though. 2muchchedder 0
how do i clean idle stabilisation valve?
andy 0
take the hoses off, remove any obvious foreign bodies ie sponge etc. spray in some carb cleaner (halfords) or similar (I used sovent cleaner) give it a wipe through, check the flap is moving smoothly (you will need a screwdriver to move this back and forth). most people then put a small amount of 3 in 1 oil type stuff on the moving parts. DundeeDub 0
cheers for the info andy i will be doing that when put my new manifold/throttle body on.
andy 0
fairly sure obd2 uses an electric throttle to vary idle speed instead of isv
corradogang* 0
what does ob2 or what ever it is mean?also do u have 2 take the cover of the engine to get to it?cheers m8
andy 0
obd stands for on board diagnostics, early vr6s are obd1, later cars are obd2, these are two versions of engine management/diagnostics basically speaking. obd2 uses a few more engine sensors than obd1 and some different ones
acf8181 0
ob1 is upto and including m plate cars, obd2 is n plate onwards.
acf8181 0
just noticed your username has corrado in it, as far as i know all 'rado's are obd1.
corradogang* 0
yes my car is a 94 corrado vr6 .so 2 get 2 this idle stabilzation valve i have to take of half my spark plug leads , take of the engine cover , and then what do i do ?
andy 0
unclip the pipes that go into the isv (cylindrical metal thing with two pipes on and an electrical connection), disconnect the electrical connector and slide it out.clean as above
acf8181 0
unplug the leads from the coilpack, and leave them connected to the plugs...don't pull them off the plugs unless you have the special tool or they may break. then undo the two spline head bolts and remove the rear lead guide.then you will be able to see the ISV clearly. corradogang* 0
cleand it out it seems to have fixed it .nice one for helping us out u have no idea how must hassle and money this has saved me . i taken the beast into a vw dealership and not for the first time they said their was nothing wrong with it and that i should take it to a auto electrician. If had done that that the could could have looked all day and still found nothing!cheers
Guest fredt
fairly sure obd2 uses an electric throttle to vary idle speed instead of isv I'm having a similar problem with the tick over not dropping to tick over straight off but hanging around 1500 and then dropping, mines a 95 12V so I take it a odb2 version hence the lack of ISV that I just spent the aftenoon looking for, is there anyway of resetting the electronic tickover sensor? can it be cleaned? is it a total throttle body off job? Guest fredt
N reg so no ICV, so how do I go about sorting this problem out? so far I have replaced a couple of hose's that were looking a bit suspect or had splits in them on the intake side of the throttle body is it a total removal job and clean it, as I have tried to clean it in situ with a spray can of carb cleaner and rag and it looks cleaner when I open the butterfly and stick my head round the back of the block! not an easy job, on mine as its a lot taller than most of your cars! (FORD GALAXY) or is it a switch or sensor up for replacement? a dealer job or DIY?[ Edited Fri Sep 03 2004, 11:07PM ]
acf8181 0
oh, you've got a galaxy...should have said. they're all obd2. i'm not sure of the differences in components on it. do have a mate who works at ford, but he hasn't touched a galaxy yet, so he prob wont know much.
