bobda 0
So, what's the benefit of the more expensive leads over standard? A conductor is a conductor, right?
rodney 17
OK so all cables are not made equal...... The HT/leads for your plugs are key as they provide the current required to create the spark on your plug. So you need to create the best spark possible to ensure the fuel mix ignites well (looking for a good KV rating like 35KV). All obvuious so far.The reasons for upgrading cables covers a couple of basic areas to ensure you get the spark you want. The manufacture of them uses other materials instead of copper as a core such as stainless steel, tin etc etc ( a better conductor) they are then wrapped in other materials so as to surpress all electromagnetic interference and operate at better temperatures. Steel conducts differently at different temperatures etc etc. finally over time the cover reacts to its environment (not a comfy place an engine) so they age and water etc gets in which the coverings help protect against...There are lots of other things refering to the levels of resistance and impeadance which I wont bore you with..... the aim is simply to get a better spark to make the engine more efficient.I hope that helps Who knew that time at University would be of use other than drinking and spotting a clean glass (bubbles stick to the dirt molecules on the side of the glass. So if bubbles rise from the base up the centre the glass is clean )

matth76 1
So' date=' what's the benefit of the more expensive leads over standard? A conductor is a conductor, right?[/quote']No extra benefit on normally aspirated cars - you're just paying for a make or colour/look. Just get the genuine vw ones.
