Scotty 0
Ok My newly acquired Vento Vr6 does'nt give me much confidence in it's brakes.Just wondering what setup up you run standard brakes on it at the moment (Thought about Grooved Disks) %-
acf8181 0
if its and obd1 (upto, and inc, M plate) best upgarde is to fit later obd2 (N plate on) brakes. obd1 had 280mm, obd2 288mm.performance discs and pads are only worthwhile if you have brake fade problems, as they are worse when cold. acf8181 0
288's are normally quite good...have you checked the condition of the discs and pads? and are they bled properly (is the pedal squishy)?you can upgrade to 312mm if you have 17" wheels. (TT carriers, spacers, TT discs, and your existing calipers)
andy 0
if you fit the 288mm discs, is that all you have to do? what i mean is do you need later calipers/different pads etc....?[ Edited Fri Aug 06 2004, 08:35PM ]

andy 0
ok, what i meant was, i have an earlier car, what would i need to change to have the later type brakes, is it disks/calipers/pads?
acf8181 0
calipers, carriers, discs, padsand maybe front brake hoses as well (not sure)[ Edited Sat Aug 07 2004, 09:46AM ]
andy 0
ok cheers, are they significantly better than the early ones? i've got no major complaint with the early ones but bigger would be nicer, its not a light car!
mark@vagworx 0
Haven't driven an early VR to know what the brakes are like.......but mines got 288's and they really do inspire me with confidence.....like you say it's a heavy car.
acf8181 0
i'm the opposite of minty...never driven a 288 equipt vr6!
mark@vagworx 0
I don't exactly hang around when driving, and i tend to brake VERY late for roundabouts etc etc......and like i said before i really can't fault them. May upgrade to 312's at some stage.....but more for the sake of having bigger brakes behind the rims....pure posability really!
acf8181 0
mine are ok at high speeds now i have FR pads (used to overheat before)...but they lack low speed bite.
mark@vagworx 0
Mine are good at low speeds too
andy 0
what pads you using minty?
acf8181 0
Mine are good at low speeds toothink thats the biggest advantage of 288's.also, i bet fade isn't a prob so you can stick with o.e. pads (and thus not sacrificing cold performance)i'm upgrading to 288's when i next need pads. mark@vagworx 0
what pads you using minty? To my knowledge they're standard pads, fairly sure they're not uprated. The whole setup feels really good.
apd 0
so without sounding stupid,if you've got a 94M [280mm disks].to upgrade to the later system all i would need is 288mm disks and pads to match, without the calipers?

apd 0
288 disks would foul the original 15s,as disks are shagged i'll fit new disks and pads all round to improve heavy braking at speed.
acf8181 0
well, i know that 15" solitudes fit over 288's as highlines came with them, so do gti long beach alloys (have tried one on a mates highline), and the late bbs cross spokes obviously would to.only question marks is the early cross spokes (sort of dished ones)
