Heater Matrix Bypassed, now won't stat

Recommended Posts

Hi...

I have a '92 golf VR6 on 140k. Couple of nights ago i was driving along and started to get a wet foot, wasn't leaking a huge amount but enough to concern me. Drove about a mile home and parked the car up.

Tonight i have gone out to the car, bypassed the heater matrix by removing the two hoses connected to the bulkhead and joining them together. I then filled the water, checked for any leaks while it was cold and then ran it. Idled for about 45 seconds before stopping and now it won't start again at all, it's turning over strongly enough but not firing.

The oil light is flashing but there is plently of oil in there and am totally stumped...

excuse the essay but i tried to mention everything i've done just in case - any help advice VERY gladly accepted!!

don't think so mate - it was idling on it's own then just stopped and won't go again, although i'll go have a thorough check again tomoro - you know what it's like checking the same stuff over and over again! is the flashing oil light normal?? - that's what scared me the most!!

Shouldn't flash really but ive been told by my mechanic that the electrical systems on MK3's are quite bad for misreporting failures, etc. If it stops flashing then it should be fine.

If it is constantly flashing then maybe there is a problem with oil pressure due to the oil pump failing?

that could be a possibility, i'm off home shortly so i'll have a thorough check and report back. The manual does say something about oil pressure and the flashing warning light, but that's about as helpful as it gets! are there any safeguards in the ecu to cut fuelling if it detects no oil pressure?

yeah, i thought that while i was driving home!! school boy error. it's now running, checked fuel first and was all good, then check for spark. nada. cleaned the contacts on the dizzy and then fired sweet as a nut. but now i've discovered a dripping fuel leak near the rear of the car. oh the joys!!
