Is it worth it?

have a 1999 JettaIV VR6 with about 116,000 miles on it. I've had a few problems with it: alternator refurbished once then replaced recently after bearing went out and messed up the belt, Sensors going bad, lately coolant has been disappearing (a common prob. i see) etc. I'm stuck between wanting to get my car in top shape, my engine at its best performance, and a better suspension. And thinking that i should just get another car soon. So is it worth the continued investment? How long before something catastrophic might happen to the engine?

These probs could happen on any car really just luck of the draw at the end of the day (or lack of it ha ha) some cars have no trouble for years then they go through a bad patch and then their ok again - had mine almost 3 years now, the only things that have needed replacing other than the normal service parts is the clutch (x2) & waterpump - I use mine on tracks etc and it does take a caning but I always look after it so it never goes without what it needs to stay tip top.
