[moved] Gear Selection 1+2

Hey Peeps, can any body help??? My mate just bought an R reg VR6. He's had it just over a month, but in the last 2 weeks he has been having problem's Gear selecting into 1st and 2nd! To be honest i'm sure he's been ripping the car after being a BM'guy for so long...Could it be the selector or the gearbox need pulling out????? Appreciate the help peeps. Thanx

is the selecton problerm from 1st to 2nd or 1st and 2nd gear ? does reverse select ok ? does the it engage nicely with the engine switched off ? if its 1st to 2nd and crunches sounds like a sincro . if its 1st 2nd and reverse but goes in ok with the engine off it could be the cluch not clearing or a master or slave cylinder problem . if it just has poor selection with engine on of off sounds like the cable is out of adjustment poss streched or part of the linkage could be worn or loose my shift weight on the gear box came loose and i had really poor gear change . anyhow i hope this might help a little

Thanks for getting back to me, well what happens is when the car is on, cannot select gear to go into 1st at all...Reverse is ok. Checked the linkage too, seems a bit of play. The car has to be driven in 2nd to take off...2nd gear sumtimes gets a little stiff.....Guess he's gonna have to wait and see what his mechanic says.
