Buzzark 0
That bloody body shop that messed up my repair last year also neglected to return the locking nut for my McGuard nuts. :@ They have the slip collar around the outside so the normal socket removal type tools don't seem to work. Had a few places try so far and they seem to be almost impossible to drill too.Good nuts security wise (clearly) but anybody know of a tool which will/might remove them? The only current offers I've had to remove them are almost guaranteed to ruin the wheels. :S
craggsy 91
Try calling or emailing mcgard if you still have the code for the key that is
Buzzark 0
Yeah, unfortunately Vince didn't supply me with the code when I bought the car. Of course I only realised that after I started looking through the paperwork for the serial number!
petervr6 0
if you can find the key you will need a think its a 19mm on them mcgaurds 12point socket then with a hammer bang the socket over the nut then with a bar yo should be able to remove them.
Buzzark 0
Thanks Peter.I'm going to take an impression in some clay/bluetak and take it to Halfords to see if they happen to have one to fit.Failing that, I'll try it with a socket and a little brute force as suggested. Buzzark 0
Seademon - how did you get the other three sets off? I'm starting tomorrow on getting them removed so if I find a good method, I'll update here.First is that trip to Halfords, second will be Peters suggestion, third will either be a chisel or dynamite depending on how miffed I am at that point. Buzzark 0
OK, I ran out of luck and ideas. The nice guy in Halfords helped me go through the whole range of keys they had in, but without a match although one looked sooo close...Then it got nasty; In trying to remove them I went through a whole set of chisels and dot punches, 1 diamond bit, one cobalt bit and 3 titanium coated HSS bits.I couldn't get a 19mm 12 point socket over the top and a 21mm was too big to fit in.I barely even scratched them - definately great for security.I called the AA explained the problem and pleaded for assistance stating I was happy to pay any extra charge. The nice lady said it was no problem and duly sent round a nice man to fix my "puncture".He really was a star and it took quite a while before he found a way to remove them which was using one of those expensive Dynomec tools that bites or in this case gets crushed into the face and a combination of impact driver and impact wrench to get the bolt free. He had to destroy one tool insert for each wheel but managed to get all removed in the end.I gave him a reasonable tip for his hard work although wish I'd had a few more notes around and also wish I'd tried that route at the beginning!Job done in the end thankfully.
