Help Golf VR6 ABS light on.

Hi

I've recently bought a 1996 VR6 and the ABs light is on permanantly i've scanned it using vag-com and it comes up with

01276 abs hydraulic pump (v64) 16-00 signal outside specifications

Is this usually the pump itself that is at fault?

go in the engine bay, look just below the header bottle, you will see the pump, there is a connector just the right of it, it has like a little T piece, pull that t piece and it should release the multi plug connector from the pump, have a squiz in side and give it a lube with wd40 replace and then reset the fault, it will probably cure it.. unless? there is a genuine issue with the pump, does your ABS work properly? you havnt mentioned

No ABS doesnt work it shuts down when light is on.
